Nothing good: one of the things that we do when we smoke, sometimes unconsciously, is to hold one's breath to increase the amount of time the smoke spends in our lungs so that we get more nicotine out of it. Breath-holding increases the chance of a Valsalva maneuver, which can exacerbate a pneumothorax or a pneumomediastinum. Plus it does all its usual damage. Please talk to your doctor about ways to quit now!!
