What stages are there in sleep?

Nrem and rem: there are 2 main stages of sleep non rem and rem. Non rem (nrem) is sub divided into n1 - stage 1 , n2- stage 2, and n3- stage 3. Stage 3 is what is considered slow wave sleep. Stage 4 is now classified in with stage 3 sleep.
