Sleep: In many ways! primarily sleep allows the circadian (night and day) rhythm cycle to reset. Also in doing so, it allows for the clarity of mind to be reset...Think of our day as a dogsled race. If we don't rest the dogs at night, they'll break down and get injured. Poor sleep, whether from erratic patterns, not enough time, etc - impaired immune system, headaches, fatigue, memory trouble, etc.

Mood stabilization: Gabapentine is an anti seizure medication that can be useful as a mood stabilizer. It is not recommended for insomnia. However, if it was prescribed as a mood stabilizer, your anxiety, agitation and others symptoms that might keep you up, will be reduced allowing you to sleep better.

Can alpha blockers help with sleep?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Sophie Duriez
Psychiatry 32 years experience
No, the opposite. : Alpha-blockers are linked to decreased REM (rapid eye movement) sleep — the dreaming stage of sleep — and daytime sleepiness. The proportion of REM sleep drops markedly as we get older and when deprived of REM sleep people can experience memory problems. Check with your doc how s/he can help you improve your sleep. Best wishes!
