Pathologist's role: Pathologists ensure accuracy of diagnosis and protect patient safety by ensuring that lab methods are reliable, accurate and have appropriate reference ranges for various patient types. They ensure that the blood supply is safe if transfusion is needed, and identify mother-baby incompatibility for Rh-disease. Culture methods of infections are also critical. Placental exam in these patients also.
