Tell your doctor...: After 3 weeks from an ankle sprain, symptoms should have subsided if you've been properly examined and treated. If scar tissue formed in the area, you may be getting compression (impingement) on an adjacent nerve. Get your ankle examined properly. An mri/ct would probably be best to examine the soft tissue. Your doc will probably rule out structural and vascular problems too. Get checked.

It depends: Ankle impingement syndrome is where there is limited and painful motion at the ankle joint. It can be a result of injury, like an ankle sprain (a sprain is a stretching/injury of the ankle ligament(s)) but other causes such as prior infection, arthritic causes might be the cause. See a podiatrist or orthopedist for an appropriate evaluation and treatment.
