A lot of medical websites say that a "boot or short walking cast" can be used to help heal an ankle impingement. is this true? if it is how long?

Not quite: A boot or walking cast can only align and immobilize the ankle/foot. An ankle impingement is a deformity of the joint impinging nerves, vessels, or soft tissue and will require surgical correction fix or orthotics to change the position of ankle and foot joint.
