What dosage of xanax (alprazolam) will calm me without affecting my mental capabilities?

Only YOUR doc knows: This question can only be answered by the doctor who prescribed the medication for you and in fact was on the script he wrote for you. Just read the label.....unless of course, it's not been prescribed for you in which case you're going to have to resort to seeing a physician first before taking ANYTHING.

Depends: Sorry for the disappointing answer, but there is no set dosage and it differs for each person. Even a small dose of alprazolam (Xanax) will dull mental ability and increase sedation, however, some people get used to these effects. Driving and safety-sensitive functions should be done with caution while on alprazolam, or any other benzodiazepine (lorazepam, clonazepam, etc.).
