Depends: The appropriate dose of alprazolam depends on the diagnosis, other medications being prescribed as well as other medical conditions that may be present. Doctors vary greatly in their comfort level in prescribing benzodiazepines including Xanax. Although the FDA labeling can be as high as 3mg three times daily for panic, very few patients are prescribed more than 1mg four times daily.
