Many reasons: An enlarged kidney can be caused by many reasons. One sided enlargement may be related to an anatomic issue blocking the ureter like a kidney stone, or even a mass. When both kidneys are enlarged this can occur related to blockage caused by kidney stones, or an enlarged prostate, diseases such as diabetes or polycystic kidney disease, inflammatory diseases etc. There are many reasons.
