What would cause your trapezious to all of suddenly feel like you strained it and it shoot all the way down to your sciatic and have swelling and numb?

One of these things: is not like the other (shoot down the sciatic nerve) . C5 nerve root impingement can give parasthesias radiating to the thumb and weakness in the C5 innervated muscles (deltoid, biceps, supraspinatus, infraspinatus) The latter two muscles are attached to the the scapula)
