No test is perfect.: Lab tests have false positives and false negatives. The accuracy of a diagnostic lab test also depends on how good the lab is, and how the test sample was collected. If detecting HIV was easy there would be only one test.

As per CDC guidelines hiv window period is 6 weeks, is this applicable for both types of hiv 1 & 2 ? as per my understanding 4th generation antigen is only for hiv 1 and only left with antibody which is recommended to test at 3 months?
Again hiv 4th gen test negative at 22 weeks.A doc here said that hiv antibody can take up to 1 year to show up. Is it true ? Anxiety came back
Hi Dr, how accurate is the antibody part of a 4th generation test at detecting hiv-2 at 38 days post exposure since p24 is not detectable on hiv-2. Doc has said I am conclusive about my negative status. Exposure was in Thailand.
