Inflammation: ESR is a non specific market for inflammations and infection. This reflects the production of inflammatory cytokines by alveolar macrophages. As the infection progresses, the inflammatory response is blunted and the microbes is able to continue multiply. See this article for more info http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3109289/. Inflammation: The ESR is a non specific test that can rise in cases of inflammatory disorders and TB can cause inflammation and the eosinophils to activate, thus rising the "SED" rate.
