Don't know: There are hereditary forms of rare cystic disease called polycystic kidneys then there are incidental simple cysts that we don't know exact root cause. Known to bear with age.

Hereditary: hereditary is one source and is a usual one Sometimes an infection can cause one but in most cases it is unknown how it is formed
