Heart rate: "Cardio" implies aerobic exercise. Any exercise that raises your heart rate to 70-80% of your calculated max heart rate will provide the effects you are looking for. Participate in any activity, time, weather, and interest allow. Calculate your max heart rate (200-age, although there are other formulas) learn to measure your heart rate, or get a monitor, and get to it.
