The process is bilat: When the sciatic nerve gets compressed or even irritated it can cause the type of pain that you are describing. Therefore,it would be appropriate to obtain an EMG from a Neurologist and a thorough workup of your spine with Neuroimaging from a specialist. There are medications and possibly even injections that may be able to help. Sometimes if pyriformis syndrome is the cause,PT may be sufficient.

A few thoughts: Any pain that runs down buttock &/or back of thigh is often labeled 'sciatic' pain.Truth is, there are many poss. causes. The sciatic nerve or one of it's branches can be 'pinched' by a herniated disc, stuck vertebra, or piriformis muscle spasm (COMMON in pregnancy). Many other causes such as referred pain from SI ligament injury, too.In pregnancy, ligaments stretch more easily leading to pain.

Depends what pinches: This needs to be clarified. If it is a disc in the middle this could do this like pushing on one side and then the other but it could be other things. That is why you need to see your physician to clarify this and get you on a correct therapy.
