?: Try to stop biting your nails. Wear gloves to prevent when you can. Open sore is one which has no cover--use a topical antibiotic and give the area a chance to heal If not improved in 48 hours, please see your physician.

It depends: If there is a wound, it needs healing, without further irritation from more biting. Nail biting is more common in girls and results from many psychological factors, including anxiety and nervousness etc. Pl see attached for more details and some tips to stop this habit.

Probably: If the skin is eroded chewed away), you probably have an open sore. This can be dangerous as your hands are exposed to bacteria such as staph or even the potent methicillin resistant staph aureu(MRSA). Open skin is susceptible to infection. You should wash your hands frequently with soap and water and apply triple antibiotic ointment. If it stays red, see your doc and stop biting your nails!

Relax: You are likely to continue until you lose enough of your teeth. Avoid bandaids. Avoid antibiotics. Nobody knows why some people chew their nails. There are no reliable methods of stopping it. So keep your nails very short. Keep them clean. Get on with your life and don't worry about this.
