A member asked:

I had a back surgery and was prescribed pain pills that have cause some constipation. what is a good and fast acting over-the-counter laxative ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Constipation: There are several options. I usually tell my pts to take a bottle of magnesium citrate to help initially. Then start a daily regimen of Miralax (polyethylene glycol). Also increase your fluids and fiber in your diet. If you drink the magnesium citrate and don't have a bowel movement you need to follow up with your doctor.
