Meniscal retear: After surgery, it can be very difficult to differentiate an old meniscal tear from a new meniscal tear on a non-contrast MRI. Although an arthroscopy would definitely answer the question of whether the meniscus has been torn again, you could also have a knee arthrogram performed first, where gadolinium MRI contrast is injected into the knee joint. Ask your surgeon his opinion.
