Both: Both tests are very accurate to diagnose a ventricular septal defect or atrial septal defect. The MRI of the heart may be easier if you will on the patient not requiring anesthesia as some transesophageal Echo may require. And the MRI is therefore "non-invasive ". Your physician may prefer one over the other. Best to talk to your doctor. Good luck

Cardiac Abnormality: The TEE echo will give you a better look at what is going on with the heart as fare as structure. However, you may have to have several test done to confirm and determine function. Discuss all of your questions and concerns with your cardiologist. Good Luck and feel better soon
