Tests: The question is not as simple as you might think. We have multiple tests available, how good the test result is depends on the lab doing it, the equipment and many other factors. Your Doc should be quite familiar with the form of testing the Doc is comfortable with in your area. MRI/MRA is a good imaging technique in proficient hands. TEE and CT are also good techniques, discuss with your Doc

Cardiac MRI/MRA/MR with IV gadolinium vs TEE echo to look for a vsd or asd, which test is more accurate? To look for a hole in the heart?

Both: Both tests are very accurate to diagnose a ventricular septal defect or atrial septal defect. The MRI of the heart may be easier if you will on the patient not requiring anesthesia as some transesophageal Echo may require. And the MRI is therefore "non-invasive ". Your physician may prefer one over the other. Best to talk to your doctor. Good luck
