What does it mean when a xray says chronic changes appearing but no active cardiopulmonary disease otherwise evident?

Normal: It is normal for all practical puposes. But the evaluated area....lungs and heart are old and used....not new.

Chronic changes: is a very non specific description. Usually it means lung scarring or other findings that are probably the result of a remote infection or injury, but are not likely to be causing any acute symptoms. No active disease means no abnormality that looks acute.

Good thing: Chronic changes on chest xray exam usually refer to scars in lungs or calcifications related to old infection. No active disease is phrase that active infection or even tumor is not present in the chest.
