Likely not: Children sometimes have barking coughs at night without persistence of symptoms into the day time, fever or difficulty breathing. This is sometimes referred to as spasmodic croup and requires no treatment other than humidified air and fluids, as you provided. If the symptoms persist or if fever or stridor (loud noise with inspiration) develop, you should see the pediatrician.
