Should see doctor: A cold with fever and cough so hard as to induce vomiting can be pertusis (whooping cough) or rsv, even if he didn't miss any scheduled vaccinations. So this one does warrent actual visit to his doctor.

Infection/asthma: It is possible that he may have bronchospasm triggered by a viral infection. Other possible causes include pneumonia, bronchitis, aspiration and post nasal drip and swallowed mucus. Please see your Pediatrician for follow up.
