Safe if used right: Your Doc eased your mind by prescribing what they felt was best for you given your overall condition. Nobody else can do better to answer your question than they can. If you're asking about potential side effects & consequences then, Xanax (alprazolam) & any drug like it can cause seizures or death if abused. Since you're unsure with the doc's choice why not discuss with them? Better than changing yourself.
