Hypnogogic Jerk: There is a normal reaction that can affect (and likely does) everyone during the transition period between WAKEFULNESS and SLEEP called HYPNOGOGIC JERKS. They are not seizures or abnormal movements. They simply reflect a change in both brain and muscle reactivity/responsivity as people transition to sleep. People also can jerk when coming out of sleep. Those are called HYPNOPOMPIC JERKS.

Muscular spasm: It does not sound serious. I am not sure that this is serious. If you still feel poorly in the AM, see your docrtor. Would eat very light for the next 24 hours and if you have a fever see your doctor. would use only tylenol (acetaminophen) and no alcohol. Best wishes.
