A member asked:

Son, 9, started on tenex (guanfacine) for ?adhd 4 days ago. today took his bp and was 88/59. is this ok? bp was 114/69 at psychiatrist prior to med. f/u w dr in 2w

A doctor has provided 1 answer

BP varies normally: Tenex, or guanfacine, is an alpha receptor agonist used to treat ADHD, and by its mode of action should not cause any serious blood pressure changes. This BP is only slightly lower and no cause for alarm. You don't need to check BP regularly unless your doctor gave you specific instructions, or there are signs of hypotension. Please discuss any symptoms of concern with the prescribing physician
