Cough protects you: Aspirating happens quite commonly -I can't even count how many times I've taken a drink of water and it 'went down the wrong pipe'. The cough reflex is there to protect the lungs, and in ur case I would be almost certain ur body did what it was supposed to do -cough it OUT of the airways and back into the GI tract -oropharynx or esophagus.
