Possible: Pain behind the knee can be from tendons, hamstrings especially, which insert onto the back of the knee or possibly a Bakers" Cyst which can "pop out" from the knee. It is the synovial lining of your knee. Less likely would be a blood clot, but this would not come and go and it would be associated with swelling.
