Will being asthmatic be a high risk pregnancy or would the baby not be affected?

Asthma pregnancy: If asthma is severe, pregnancy may aggravate it as there is less lung volume when the pregnant tommy presses into the chest cavity. Mom's lack of oxygen can lead to baby's distress.

Depends...: Pregnant asthmatics will experience either a worsening of their athma, improvement or no change in their asthma. And, each pregnancy can be different even in the same patient. So, asthma needs to be carefully monitored in the pregnant patient and symptoms treated to maintain proper oxygen levels in both the mother and developing fetus.

Yes & no: They will classify you as high risk with any medical condition, including being over 35, so I wouldn't lose sleep over the label. As long as you work with your docs & keep your asthma under control, baby will likely not see any effect at all. If you go on daily oral steroids or have worrisome attacks, baby may be affected but less than you would expect. Just try to keep up with your asthma plan.
