Safe ?: I would say it is possibly safe, but I never recommend bringing a new pet into a home where a newborn is expected. especially with first time parents. Both require a significant commitment of time and effort & there is no guarantee that the pet & infant would get along. Some breeds are better than others but I still never consider it wise in this setting. Get the kid past 3 & maybe.
