A member asked:

What are midwives? do they have the same training as a doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below...: There are lay midwives and nurse midwives. Nurse midwives are nurses who have extra training to care for pregnant women and deliver babies. They don't have the same training as doctors and don't do c/sections or complicated deliveries but are very good at normal deliveries. Lay midwives have very little formal medical training, even in nursing. They learn as an apprentice to a lay midwife.
