Are midwife's cheaper than regular doctors?

Depends on who pays: Some insurance policies might not cover having a midwife so you may end up paying a larger bill out of pocket. You definitely need to check this out as you're making decisions about your birth plan. Certified nurse midwives are not trained to care for high risk patients - those with certain health issues. Be sure to fully disclose all issues in first visit to have healthiest outcome for mom/baby.

Sure, right up until: There's a problem with the delivery, or need for a neonatal icu, or god forbid, an emergency c-section because of fetal distress. How about a "natural" water delivery right into blood, feces, meconium, and other "natural" substances in the water the baby ingests and inhales. Do you really want to risk mother and baby's life and well-being to save a buck (only if everything goes perfectly)?
