A member asked:

Ventral hernia. i'm 100 lb overweight. doctor says to lose half of it to lower my infection rate. how does that work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pre op health: Most surgical centers will require patients to stop smoking, and have a BMI of less than 40. Hernia repairs are usually elective procedures, so we ask the patients to do their part in their pre op preparations. Certainly people who are massively overweight and smoking have higher rates of repair failure , infection, blood clots, pneumonia, and death. Do your part. Good luck.
