Braces: Teeth are extracted before braces for a couple of reasons. First of all if a tooth is badly broken down and up restorable it needs to be r moved. Secondly, if there is not enough space to put the teeth in the desired position. Ask your orthodontist to explain the recommendations for your mouth.

Yes but...: Teeth used to be extracted quite often in early days for braces. Now, many orthodontists try and straighten the dentition without having teeth taken out- except for wisdom teeth. Each case is different and requires different treatment plans. If in doubt, get a second personal opinion

Not uncommon: Orthodontic treatment often involves removing permanent teeth. Usually, when there are too many teeth for the size of the dental arches, there may not be enough space to align the rest of the teeth and extractions are warranted.
