May help: Usually spleens autoinfarct (shrink to small fibrous tissue), sometimes spleens capture red cells and get very large with a lot of blood in them. This is called splenic sequestration syndrome and sometimes splenectomy is required. Infection is the major complication and can be prevented with vaccinations and oral antibiotics.
