Depends: If it is a fungal infection, then no. If it is a bacterial infection then yes.

See a doctor: Is it red, swollen, painful, with drainage? If so, the nail, or a portion of the nail, has to be removed by a podiatrist, in the office with a local anesthetic. If you are diabetic, see a podiatrist quickly; do not self treat! Sincerely, Dr. Latva
