Tumor/ inflammation: These are not ideal biomarkers because they are not specific for cancer. CEA of Gold first thought to be good cancer marker elevated if one smokes or takes an enema. CA 15.3 elevated in some ovarian cancers but also in cirrhosis of the liver. Neither define a specific immunogenic tumor protein .and should not used for diagnosis of cancer Best used for monitoring.
