The side effect: profile of SSRI's is generally superior to that of Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA). To get a TCA up in the dose range needed to treat depression - there is significant potential for side effects. I am not aware of a TCA being more beneficial than an SSRI for treatment of depression. (But TCA may be used for sleep or pain control). Take care.
