I have a chronic heartburn and currently taking lansoprazole as a temporary solution looking for a permanent solution?

Permanent Solution: Difficult to say really. Other medications may help - Prilosec, Nexium, (esomeprazole) Protonix, etc. However, these may or may not be permanent. Depends on the underlying problem - you could have an infection in your stomach, could be genetic, could have a hiatal hernia, there could be lots of explanations. Probably be a good idea to see your doctor and get evaluated. Good luck!

Chronic = permanent: There is a laparoscopic surgery (laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication) that can be successful in up to 90% of people, but has potential complications. If there is a reason for the heartburn, it is better to address that: Avoid caffeine, fizzy drinks, fatty/oily/greasy foods, citrus fruits, tomatoes, peppermint, chocolate, cheese, alcohol, and also avoid eating for the 4 hours or so before bedtime.

Many possible: Here are some things to try. Maintain a normal body weight. Do not drink alcohol or more than one drink a day with caffeine. Do not drink carbonated beverages. Eat frequent small meals instead of occasional large ones. Do not eat within 3 hours of going to bed. Sometimes the problem can not be corrected and meds are necessary but it is worth trying to get off the medications. Good luck.
