A member asked:

I had burning pain above belly button, black stool and drop in hgb indicating ulcer; stopped bleeding on own and resolved on its own. what is the likelyhood it will bleed again. still having burning pain.

Good chance: The bleeding if due to an ulcer is from erosion of the gastroduodenal artery. This frequently clots off on its own but often the clot dissolves and bleeding restarts. Gastroscopy can define the lesion and it may be treated by local fulguration. Otherwise by arteriography a clot can be placed in the artery. If these methods don't work, surgical resection or vagotomy pylorplasty needed.
