Work with MD: A vitamin D level of 12 IS low, and your treatment was appropriate. I would expect your vitamin D level will be normal when rechecked. If not, further tests should be done including evaluation for conditions causing malabsorption of calcium including celiac disease. Higher doses of vitamin D are often needed in obese adults. PS: hope you're feeling better:)

Keep listening to: your doc. Your D level will rise. Experts on D suggest a level between 50 and 80. Many people supplement w/5K IUs of D3 daily. Peace and good health.

Depends: this depends on your lab results. I recommend that D3 levels be maintained in the 60-70 ng/dl range. Usual dose to be in that range is 5-7,000 IU per day. If you are taking 50,000 units per week, please be sure to take it with a meal.
