A member asked:

Is it possible to have invisalign braces on only the top teeth?

Not advisable: First know that clear aligners are considerably less effective than braces. Second, if you realign teeth in one arch but not the other, interdigitation relationships can be compromised. In other words you can make a bad situation worse. Please have your malocclusion evaluated by a full time qualified Orthodontic Specialist, not a part timer.

Invisalign on top: The simple answer is yes. However, every case is different. Depending on what kind of result you are trying to achieve will determine if you need on both top and bottom aligners. Sometimes in order to move the teeth, you need to have aligners on both arches, so the teeth don't interfere with each other.

Possibly but...: Having invisalign on the upper only is a possibility, but I* would get more than one opinion. The alignment, existing dentition and your age may dictate this type of treatment.

No: It is not possible to get invisalign on only one arch. Moving the teeth on one arch will require the movement of the teeth on the opposing teeth as well so that the teeth can fit into each other properly.

Not recommended: It is possible but is not recommended because only treating top arch can result in bite problems and malocclusion.

Yes, but bad idea: Trying to do orthodontics by manipulating only one arch is like trying to perform surgery with one hand tied behind your back. As teeth are moved on the one arch it can impact your bite. without the control of being able to adjust both arches the time takes longer and the results are sub-optimal. Your costs are the same, the time is the same-- suggest you treat both arches.
