Dental caries: It is very unlikely that the organisms in your husband's mouth are going to affect your individual health. Good oral care is very very important, and twice a day brushing, flossing once a day and perhaps use of a mouthwash would be helpful. You should discuss this with your dentist. They are great at advising in this matter. Best wishes.

Should not: Good oral care (brushing teeth at least twice a day with fluoride containing toothpaste, good oral rinse once or twice a day) not smoking or chewing tobacco, and avoiding sweets should be all you need to do to promote good oral health. His cavities should not affect you and not cause any immune system issues you may have. Hope this helps Best of luck. Dr R

Need more info: As the other 2 physicians pointed out, it is unlikely that your husband's poor dentition would affect you. However, "being always sick" and "immune system not ideal" are too vague to be able to give you any meaningful advice. Severe migraine and acid reflux do not decrease y our immune system but may make your life very unpleasant. See a good internist if you don't have one.

Of course: Gum disease and tooth decay are the most common infectious oral diseases. The germs can spread from mouth to mouth via shared food and utensils, sneezing and kissing.
