YES!: Not only can this happen, but it does happen. Infections can spread to other parts of your body and cause serious complications including death. This is nothing to take lightly. I also know of a child whose baby tooth infection spread to his brain and now he is mentally retarded from this. It can occur even in young healthy individuals. Get the tooth fixed or extracted asap!

Possible: An abscess can become very severe quickly. If the infection enters your blood stream it can affect the major organs of your body and you will be in critical condition. See a dentist soon and have the issue taken care off. An abscess can affect the health of the adjacent teeth and these teeth may also be lost. Wearing dentures to replace these teeth is not fun at all.
