Rash: A meningitis rash is more bruising and the rash is not the predominant symptom of meningitis. The symptoms are neck pain, headache and high fevers. Perhaps this is more of a viral rash to go with the cold symptoms. How high is his fever if he has one?

Meningitis: The only way to diagnose Meningitis is to examine spinal fluid. If this diagnosis is a concern your child requires collection of Cerebral spinal fluid to determine meningitis. A non specific rash does not help the diagnosis. Some types of meningitis have a rash called a petechial rash which looks like tiny bruises that do not blanche. These can get bigger. See your doctor or ER now for meningitis.

Rash: Rash of skin are non-specific. Even a Bulls eye rash highly suggests but not always an indicator of Lyme's disease. Classic signs of Meningitis are high fever, neck rigidity, severe headache. If your son has contact with another person with meningitis, take him to see his doctor ASAP!
