I jammed my hand and now my metacarpal bones in my hand are tender and red is it possible they are broken?

Certainly : The only way to tell for sure is to get an X-ray. Go to an urgent care. It is very important that the carpal bones heal properly if they are broken.

Yes: Yes, it is actually a fairly common area to see a fracture, I would not hesitate to be seen.
