Symptom relief: Yes, gabapentin can suppress nerve pain, but this is purely symptomatic relief, without any affect upon recovery or cure. Since your problem just began, there is an excellent chance of improvement over next 3-4 weeks. If numbness persists, at that point an EMG test could guide further intervention.
