A long time: Bones take a long time to heal: 3 months minimum, sometimes a year for full recovery. It also sounds like you may be inadvertently exacerbating it since you use your dominant hand (of course). Drug stores sell wrist braces - you might try one to protect your metacarpal, remind you that it needs to be shielded, and to partially immobilize it. Or you could try taping it.
