Bruised metacarpal 5 weeks ago. bone still tender to press, random pain in hand and pain when scrubbing things. swelling has not gotten better. its my dominant hand so it gets alot of use. how long until the tenderness goes away?

A long time: Bones take a long time to heal: 3 months minimum, sometimes a year for full recovery. It also sounds like you may be inadvertently exacerbating it since you use your dominant hand (of course). Drug stores sell wrist braces - you might try one to protect your metacarpal, remind you that it needs to be shielded, and to partially immobilize it. Or you could try taping it.
