Hyperparathyroidism: can cause calcium to leave your bones and enter blood stream, elevating its levels. If left alone, it can lead to decreased bone density and even fractures. Pain is usually in bone, not in joints. Hypoparathyroidism can cause low calcium and lead to muscle tetany. So, no, joint pain alone is not a common symptom in either case.
