A member asked:

I am about to have eye lid surgery. i also have sleep apnea. is iv sedation going to be a problem (doc says no, but i'm not so sure) never had it.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sleep apnea: Any type of sedation can lead to oropharyngeal muscle relaxation and loss of tone, leading to tongue falling back and airway compromise. Oral or nasal airway can keep airway open during surgery. Also, with blepharoplasty, only light sedation is needed in most cases, keeping the patient's muscle tine intact. You will be monitored during surgery and will be kept safe by your surgeon and anesthesiolo
